Hi there

Just wondering if it is possible to fit a toilet below ground level?

The house only has one toilet upstairs and we want to make use of the little cellar we have and convert it to a toilet.

What are the complication in fitting a toilet (loo & basin)?

If its possible what are the costs involved?

Thanks

Are you below the level of the sewer in the proposed position of the new W.C. and basin?

Gravity is always best, but you do have the risk of sewage making a reappearance if the drains block up and a cellar full is not a pleasant thought..... If gravity is not an option then you can use a macerator, such as a Saniflo. Comprises of a shredder and pump, that reduces solid waste to a slurry that can be pumped away using 22mm pipework. Requires an electrical supply to operate, and not many will work on them should it go wrong for obvious reasons.... ;) Costs depend on location and work involved in installation.

Golden rules of a Saniflo. Always have another W.C. on a 4" drain. Do not put anything through it that hasn't been through you. :D (It wont tolerate sanitary towels, wipes etc, and is likely to jam or burn out.)
