Fitting Essex Boss

I went to fit a surrey flange today but it looks like I have a none standard hot water cylinder tank it has a male ¾ bsp thread fitted as part of the tank, is it possible to drill out the existing flange and replace it with an Essex Boss 1” BSP female thread, or will this wreck the tank.

sure its not a 22mm x 1" mi screwed into the top of the cylinder ?

I wish it was, I have removed the 22mm pipe from the top of the tank and the male thread forms part of the tank.
