I'm being told that when I buy my new sinktop (1 large, 1 small bowl and drainer), there will be a template showing the area to be cut out. My question is this: do I really have to cut out the ENTIRE area of the sink unit, including the drainer part, or can I sit the unit on top of the work surface with only a hole cut out for the bowl area?

You really need to cut the complete shape out, and that way you can use the clips that hold the sink tightly down onto the worktop.
John :)
