Fitting new sink waste

32mm sink waste fitted. Trouble is the 32mm p trap end doesnt quite fit in the hole.

I'm assuming the entire tip (inc the washer) goes inside? It doesnt leaving about 2 mm to go in. No way that bit with the washer on is going in there.
Thats never going to work - tightening up the nut it doesnt stay straight and leaks.

Any ideas?

Bin the washer and use PTFE instead or is this not a good idea?

Bought both from screwfix. 32mm waste. 32mm adjustable p trap.

Is it the trap connection to waste fitting that you are referring to ? Some basin wastes internal diameter are a tad small to accommodate certain traps ( particularly macalpines). The washer doesn't go inside the waste ,but sits in-between the waste and trap.
Showing us some pics would be useful.

Yes thats it. Yeh it macalpine.

I'll try and get a pic but the waste bit is like 2mm, then a rubber washer in a groove then sort of like a lip. I assumed the waste pipe went in up to the lip so the washer was like 1-2mm inside the screw of the waster.

At the moment, the rubber washer just sits onto of the rim of the basin waste metal screw bit. Its never going to be watertigtht because when you tighten the waste just moves off flush - its impossible to get spot on straight.

On the trap there is a small section of plastic ,just above the washer,that must go inside the waste fitting. Is your problem that bit is too large a diameter to go fully inside the waste fitting. Have come across that before and just used a file to reduce the diameter. Remove the washer whilst doing it !

+1 ... some basin wastes seem to be a little smaller internal diameter than others. It's just a miniscule amount and as suggested, filing/trimming down the small raised plastic area will allow it to fit.

Got it now. Tight fit and it was hard to tighten the nut and keep it straight but got there in the end.
