Fitting skirting

Have had walls skimmed, have painted them and now to fit the skirting. It is MDF which is primed and I have painted.

Will grip fill work on painted MDF and painted walls or will it struggle to hold?

The walls are brick with a wooden batton on the bottom, could I nail into this, or should I screw into the wall?

Countersink the screw heads and screw into the baton then fill the holes and paint over for the best job. Nails and/or grip fill will work though.
