On a few occasions now I have been caught out when replacing a basin tap (same may also be true for bath tap) and would like your advice please.

When removing the old tap, I would face something like this:

The other end of this flexible pipe connects to the tap (one of those hand tight jobbies).

I have then naively assumed that a new tap with "similar" flexible will go straight in. But, the new tap always comes with these ends:

This means that I have to purchase one of these and lose the nuts and olives to use as a means of connection:

It seems to be a waste of a Coupler.

Is this normal in terms of the mismatch between current and new tap flexi connections?
If yes, is there a more efficient fitting rather than a coupler less its nuts and olives?

Thanks in advance.

Not a good idea as the end of the fitting isn't flat, it is tapered and can dig into the washer. Better using the ones linked to above.

Been covered a few times especially recently. In that circumstance I would pop an ISO valve on it for future servicing (should have one anyway) and then file the outlet end of the valve flat so it won't cut into the rubber washer. The valves are only brass so nice and soft and a flat file does the job in less than a min, cheaper too.

The pipes have isolation valves further down. Presumably an (additional) isolation valve is more expensive than the fitting being proposed above?

And with an isolation valve I still need to lose the nuts and olives which seems a waste. Hope I’ve understood this correctly!

thanks again
