Fix Garden Wall

Hello All
Our garden wall is english bond and around 6 courses high.
The wall is falling to peices and i will rebuild it.

I have some questions.

Whats the best way to clean the old victorian bricks?
Do i need to put in a small footing for 6 cources?

Axe or brick hammer, or sling 'em if the mortar is too stubborn or damaged faces.

Do i need to put in a small footing for 6 cources?

Yes, 100mm min and on decent ground.

I would go for a 4" bolster and lump hammer to clean the bricks and as noseall says; chuck them if it's to stubborn.
