Can you explain to me the process? Did you just use mortar and push into place?

If it is a clean ish break and can be cleaned and free of dust then I would use a few tubes of 201 Geocell instead of cement, but if the wall and the foundations have been pushed back together then you should only need to level the wall and then back fill with some concrete.

Yes, just clean off the old mortar and re-lay on a fresh bed.
