Fixing a TV mount on a dry-wall

Hello again,

AS I've mentioned in a few other posts, my house is internally constructed of plasterboard over metal box-section framework. This makes hanging heavy items particularly hard as you can't screw into the studs like you could in a traditional partition.

I need to hang a 60" tv (about 25 kilos) right in the middle of one such wall. I plan to bolt an MDF board to 2 of the studs, then fix the TV bracket to the board (as the bracket itself isn't wide enough to span the studs). There are 2 metal 'studs' in the ideal position for the board, but I have no idea what sort of fixings to use on them.

I assume some sort of expanding anchor, but no idea if there is anything specific? Any ideas?

Personally I would just use hollow wall anchors. If you put one in every single hole of your TV mount, then for it to come down it would have to bring down about 2 square foot of plaster. That usually means about 20 of them - so they're only taking slightly over 1kg each...

I've done it a couple of times before.

These ind of things - http://www.screwfix.com/p/rawlplug-intersets-m6-x-37mm-pack-of-20/40813 - make sure you get big ones though, not little ones. And don't overtighten them! You don't want them biting into the plaster, just tight against the paper.

I've used Rawl Interset M6 x 65 Heavy Duty Cavity Fixings (similar to loply). You need to check whether you have single or double skin plasterboard. They are great but make sure you use the appropriate tool for inserting them into the wall.
