We had two rooms reverted to solid wood recently, sanding the Victorian 6" boards back and varnishing them. Despite checking for damaged boards and replacing them, a couple only got noticed when we were walking on them.

We have one which is split but otherwise looks great, and another where the edge just seems to have got 'bashed' - all the wood is there but it's splintered.

Is there any type of product I can pour into the damaged areas and will bind it back together without needing me to remove and clamp the boards? Pulling them is likely to cause more damage and I assume wood glue won't work without compression?

you dont need compression but it helps

if you have any glue on the surface it will stop stain or any treatment covering and can leave an opaque foggy look where the glue is

How wide is the crack, and how well do you want to conceal it. You can use 2 part wood filler, and work it well into the crack. You can get the boards up by using a hole punch to knock the nails through, but as Big-all suggests, it's not so desperate. If the woods dry, and you go with the glue put down some sellotape first to minimise the overspill.

We've used filler in some places where there are holes or chips but would rather not here since there's not wood missing, just split.

So regular wood glue is as good as anything here, try and get it in as deep as possible?
