Hi,

Most of the walls have been replastered in our 1930s house apart from two walls, one was fine to paint however the second wall has been a nuisance. We are trying to paint a grey old plastered wall which were very smooth when we started, but now where the paint has flaked there are several uneven areas. It has had several layers of paint and nothing seems to stick, can anyone suggest how to rectify this problem area so we can paint the wall and possibly level it without being to costly.

Many thanks in advance

Mandy,

The old grey plaster wall would probably be a lime mortar, and should be sealed with an oil based primer sealer prior to the application of modern day paint systems. Yet the only real cure would be to have the wall replastered.
