Hi everyone

I have a semi detached three bedroom house. All the bedrooms have flat dorma roofs. I have lived here for 10 years but have never had any work done to the roof. Over the the last two winters one of the bedrooms has sprung a leak. Water doesnt gush through buit it does drip through the light fitting so I now have a large water stain on the ceiling and it has now started to bubble here and there. I have been up on the roof and can see it has started to crack and show signs of wear. As a temporary fix I have applied a pitch but this doesnt seem to last. The bedroom is were my autistic disabled daughter sleeps so there is a safety issue aswell.
So to finally get round to my question. How practical would it be for me to attempt repairs myself? Or should I get a roof specialist in? If so how much would this cost?
Hope someone can help me out.
Many thanks
Gareth

Well you can waste your money on trying to repair it, It may last 12 months, 3 years. 2 weeks. who knows.

Or you can just get it done properly 1st time saving money in the long run.

If money is an issue then put a tarps over the area with lots of weight to weigh it down and save the money needed to replace it.

In the meantime, try and get a few estimates on how much it would be to replace the flat roof. You may be suprised on actually how much roofing jobs cost.

It sounds like the roof covering has come to the end of its life.

Get a few prices in for a re-roof, and make sure they all price like for like, as you have a few options of materials.
Felt, epdm rubber, grp.
You might also need the boards renewing if the waters been getting in for a while.
A good chance to upgrade to a warm roof construction.

Many thanks for the great advice. The more options I have the better so keep them coming. Of course money is tight at the moment but i'd rather have the job done well. Not saying I couldnt do it myself but as I havent done it before it would be a bit of a risk.
Thanks again.

Zinc is a brilliant material to use on a dormer. It's pleasing to the eye and will last a lifetime. I'd be happy to quote for the job if you're interested? I'd also give a lifetime guarantee with my work :D

According to me you can get help at Tradition Roofing & Exteriors. They provide best roofing services using cedar roofing products, cedar shakes, cedar shingles, taper sawn and give a natural look that increases the beauty and value of your home.
