Can a conservatory be built with a traditional timber flat roof? UPVC frame are not normally designed to carry weight, but can the frame be designed with baypoles to carry the weight?

Forgive me for asking, but why would you want a timber flat roof on a connie?

No one has a conservatory anymore, they are now all Orangaries with flat roofs. Much posher for the marketing men to push.

Ahh, gotcha.
A conservatory is too hot in summer/to cold in winter. By putting on a flat roof, it can be insulated, together with an insulated floor, should increase the useability of the space

When is a conservatory, an orangery? and when does a conservatory become a sunroom or extension?
The sides are Upvc to base (no dwarf wall), so is same construction as conservatory (or orangery) without the polycarbonate roof (or lantern in an orangery)

So, people use the term 'conservatory' to side step reg's so that they can build cheaply and end up with a hybrid that is just as difficult to heat and is just as poorly constructed as a connie.
