in a normal house with normal water and under normal usage conditions how long would you expect a glow worm flexicom 18hx to last? mine is under 3 years old and has just broken down,the engineer from edf told me not to expect it to last 5years,is this true?

Its working life will depend whether or not you have it suitably maintained.

if its seviced every 12mounths
Is that by a competent engineer with the trade at heart, or someone who subs for contract insurers because they can't find their own customers?

the man is an idiot. It will last 10-20yrs depending on various factors. but 10yrs minimum. I give a 5yr warranty on flexicoms, so by his estimations they will need replacing as soon as the warranty runs out !
If you have a service contract however, the boiler will probably never be properly serviced. Just a poke with an FGA i expect ! So maybe less? I would be distraught if one of my installed heat only boilers only lasted 5 yrs
