Hi,

I've got an area approx 2.5m x 3m x 70mm where I need to increase the floor level and a floating floor looks to be a good option. I've seen in other posts I need a insulation slab, membrane and T&G chipboard.

With the chipboard there is reference to leaving a gap around the edge for expansion. However, it begs the question that if there is this gap all the way around the what stops the T&G from moving around? There was one post regarding a gap of 10mm which totals 20mm across the width meaning that the floor as whole could move 20mm?!?

Have I missed something about securing the T&G?

All help appreciated.

May not be exact answer - but my 4p worth.
The flooring is generally heavy.
All joints are usually secure (either T&G glued or locked) so individual boards won't move as held by their neighbours.
Expansion will be allowed outwards in all directions etc but would not expect the whole floor to slide as a unit.
The floating floor is also laid on top of an suitable underlay, which I would also expect to help a bit.
