Floods

o_O

For years the experts have been telling the government that global warming is causing more severe weather conditions, especially more frequent torrential rain, and that drainage systems need updating.

Floods are not an act of god. They are cause by a lack of action from the government. In areas that received flood defence investment, the flood barriers worked and homes and businesses were saved.

Don't blame the magical man in the sky for the government's failure to protect its people!

The government.... any particular one?

Unless you are on the banks of the river Thames....in London.(y)

Depends if you're upstream or downstream of the Thames barrier, I've seen the Thames damn close to overspilling, not that I care much, anyway they wouldn't notice, being so wet already.

Sorry, but whilst you can mitigate floods, you can't hold back nature, one man's diversion is anothers problem.

you can't hold back nature

You can (to some degree) if you work with it. Not against it.
Were not very good at working with it.
The usual conclusion seems to be blame the government of the day.

A bit like when they built the flood relief channel at Windsor, first time it was fully opened it worked a treat, Windsor didn't flood. Of course a few miles upriver in Wraysbury, Runnymead and Staines, Oh dear.

Couldn't have mitigated Boscastle, except by not building anywhere near it, that was close to biblical.

Biblical indeed, hard to imagine when you stroll through there on a sunny day looking at the trickle of water in the stream.
