Floor joists extend past front door

I have an Edwardian house circa 1900s.

I'm about to have the front door replaced and wanted to sort out the step first.

The existing "step" is wooden. I've stripped it off and found the internal floor joists come past the door threshold. They are wrapped in plastic DPC so definitely not original. The end of the joists rest on an old wall below so I can't just cut them back. Certainly not what I expected!

The last photo is about 0.5m in where it looks like they've been extended. I've no idea on the history, but given the end of the joists are supported past the door threshold, I'm guessing they've been replaced.

Has anyone else seen anything similar? is this standard construction for this age of house?

OP,
Is the door frame & the door being replaced?
The last board needs to be removed - do you possess a multi tool?
Pic #3 is a little confusing - can you step back & and photo it again?
Signs of rot are obvious on top of the board - what about underneath it?
Are there air bricks in the front elevation?

The timber front step, threshold & short joists arrangement is a repair job done, say, 30 to 50 yrs ago.
When I get a better idea of things then, if you want, I'll tell you how to reconstruct a new step?

What I would do, depending on how long those extended joists are, is either remove them completely, or shorten them back. Then make up some form work, and make a concrete step, with a slight slope away from the house.
