I have an Edwardian house circa 1900s.
I'm about to have the front door replaced and wanted to sort out the step first.
The existing "step" is wooden. I've stripped it off and found the internal floor joists come past the door threshold. They are wrapped in plastic DPC so definitely not original. The end of the joists rest on an old wall below so I can't just cut them back. Certainly not what I expected!
The last photo is about 0.5m in where it looks like they've been extended. I've no idea on the history, but given the end of the joists are supported past the door threshold, I'm guessing they've been replaced.
Has anyone else seen anything similar? is this standard construction for this age of house?
