I'm thinking about building a step outside our front door, as the threshold is at an uncomfortable height at the moment. As it needs to be 1.5M X 0.5m but only about 100 - 120mm high, I am considering laying a bit of poly sheet on the existing paving slabs, which are well bedded on concrete, laying a single course of bricks on the poly, infilling with a bit of concrete, brick ends etc, and finishing off the top with quarry tiles. Theory is that will make it easier to tear up when 'Er Indoors' decides she doesn't like it, or funds run to a new door with a lower threshold.
What is the best thing to do about the damp course, which will be level with, or only about 10mm above the top of the new step?
