Hi,

Just had a chimney breast re-built in the living room.

The floor area where the insert gas fire is to be placed needs to be

raised up about an inch to be level with the foor [floorboards]

Will sand and cement be ok or some steel plate be adequate?

Craig.

mortar would be fine to build up the height. i would also bed a piece of DPM down first just as a precaution against damp.

use a relatively weak mortar ie 1: 5 or 6 (cement : sand). try also to use plasticiser in the mix.

use a piece of wood across the front to dam the mortar if necessary.
