We've had the old floor tiles removed from our porch/lobby and in places the concrete floor below had come away with the tiles - we need to level this up as we're having carpet fitted instead of the tiles - I was planning to just use cement to do this. The depth varies (obviously - as it is uneven) but is no more than 1" deep, probably less and the affected area is approximately 1sq.m - about 1.2mx0.9m.

Will I be OK using cement to do this - or should i use something else. Any idea roughly how long it'll take to set/cure bearing in mind its less than 1" thick and in a heated room with good air circulation? Should i use 4:1 sand:cement mix?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I would repair any deep areas with normal cement, then I would use self leveling compound, to level the whole floor out.
In areas that a shallow, a normal cement mix struggles to bond to the existing floor and can shale away, quite quickly.
Where self leveling compound will not.
The cement repair should be okay to cover over the next day and self leveling has usually cured within 24 hrs, but some product do vary so read the instruction on the container.
