I am having a concrete floor laid in a conservatory and have been advised to have a screed finish ( I am having electric underfloor heating in a carbon mat underneath and this will have insulation board under this on to of the floor), do I really need a screed or is a concrete finish sufficient? Also, how thick should the screed be?

Thanks very much! :

A screed IS a concrete floor! It's just done in a different way to get a flatter surface.

A screed is much drier than 'concrete' when laid so is easier to get a flat finish, without any trowel marks, and it uses a sharp sand rather than 'ballast' as the aggregate, so it is 'finer'.

The cost difference is nil. I'd go for the screed every time.
