Floor tiling

I'm about to tile a concrete floor. Do I need to use a specialist product to treat the concrete floor with first, to enable to tiles and adhesive to stick ..... or am I ok to use PVA?

I've heard differing opinions .... I don't want to fork out for expensive specialist stuff if PVA is fine .... but I don't want to mess up the floor for the sake of buying it if it's needed.
