Hi all,

The boards in our bedroom have been cut previously to allow for installation of central heating pipes.

When we moved in there was laminate in the bedroom, but we've removed this and plan to replace with carpet. As the laminate was running across the boards the squeaking has been minimal...but now with nothing (and presumably the same with carpet), the squeak and bow of these sections are quite bad when you walk on them, especially where they join.

Would it be sufficient to use more screws at regular intervals into the joists (being careful of pipework!!), or is there something else I should be doing? Unfortunately, I cannot afford to replace the floor.

Many thanks in advance

Can you lift the boards and look to see where the joists are? Those screws are probably not going to be doing much where they are - they need to be in the board!
The more screws the better IMO (within reason!).

If there is no joist available to screw to, you could put in a new joist section or two by screwing pieces of wood to the sides of existing joists. Look up sistering floor joists.

Don't think you need such big bolts as those though (pic nicked of net)
