Hello members,

Recently a fluorescent lamp failed and I decided to replace it - I do not remember how but I managed to remove the lamp.
Now I have bought a new lamp ( T8 ) to replace - however I have failed to understand how this lamp would install. The socket seemed linear, but the black lock inside would not rotate. The lamp pins would also not fit the centre (snap in type).

Please see attached picture of the socket.

Appreciate your help and advice.

Thanks.

The black centre piece needs to rotate through 90 degrees so that the slot is accessible both ends. The tube simply slides up in the slots and twists through 90 degrees again so the pins make contact.

Yep, just install one end of the lamp into the holder in turn and rotate the centre so the slot is vertical. Ensure the fitting is switched off when you do this, as a second safety measure don't touch the pins on the opposite end of the tube whilst you do this (as if the fitting is on it hurts!!)
Then the new tube should just slot in and rotate through 90 degrees, the two dots on the end caps will line up with the slots in the holders. Then the jobs a good one.

Thanks guys,

Although, I am sure I tried to rotate it before - may be need to try a bit harder this time.
Will give it a try and post feedback :)

Now you know how to get the tube in and out you can take it out again and clean the fitting
