Flush pipe dimensions

I have a low level wc, and was wondering if shortening the flush pipe would have any undesirable side effects? Want to lower the cistern mostly, but also move the pan back a little. Don't know if there are any regs or commonsense rules about this, any input greatly appreciated.

No. You just cut em to length

There won't be 'any undesirable side effects' so cut away ... but beware of 2 things:

make sure you leave enough lenght at both ends to accommodate a secure fit.

don't take the pan too close to the wall (of the cistern too low) as the bog seat may not stay up (in the open position) - ever tried taking a leak whist holding the bog seat up at the same time??? Messy!!!
