Hi all

Firstly, if this is a daft question then please forgive me.

I have read the sticky about flushing my system and i am goint to do this. What i dont understand is why i cannot turn on the filling loop and let the water drain out the overflow on the boiler. Will the water go round the system or straight out the overflow?

Regards

Mike

By overflow, I take it you mean safety discharge. The main reason is that it won't ever shut down again properly and you will constantly lose pressure from your system whilst your blood pressure rises at a corresponding rate.

Another reason is that all the sludge that you flush out the rads would be carried through the boiler pipework before discharge. The sludge is likely to lodge in all sort of corners of the boiler heat exchanger, pump and valves. The whole point of flushing is to avoid getting sludge in the boiler!

Sounds like you haven't read the guidance very carefully. You need to understand every step of the process or you'll make a mess of it. Sometimes it's better to get a professional in.
