FOOTINGS ON SLOPING GROUND

Hi,
I need to dig footings for a garage, unfortunately from the front to the back of the garage the land runs off by approx 2 foot. Can I dig footings at different levels providing each strip sits on clay? any help/diagrams would be appreciated.
