im building an extension and my depth of footing will be 900mm in clay. the existing house footing is only 400mm also in solid clay i was wondering do i have to dig under existing footing and fill with conc or just go up to it cheers

most bco's in Staffs require a slight underdig, providing an underpin to the existing.

The BCOs around here don't.

You would only be asked to do it if the existing is a traditional stepped brick footing, in which case the ground under the step is removed to take the new foundation plumb with the external face of the existing building.
