Hi,
I am wondering if someone could tell me how deep I need to dig the footings for my conservatory if it is 4 metres by 3 metres?
Not sure what else you need to know if anything else as Im a bit useless  so let me know if you need to know anything more!
Thanks, Sarah :)

I don't think it is dependent so much on size, but as the last poster points out, ground conditions etc.

I am part way through a double storey extension. We have clay soil so generally council here want 1.2m. An architect will be able to assist. With ours, we used a structural engineer due to the nature of the build and so he specified the depth of the trench then structural details from the bottom the trench right up to the roof. He advised that we start off digging to 1.2m at the existing house then going down to 1.3m at the furthest point away from the house I.e the new rear wall due to a tree being within 5.5m.

These are some of the things considered when doing footings

A rule of thumb would be 1m deep.

If you intend to use the conservatory in the future as habitable usable space then consider getting the foundations designed appropriate to the ground conditions and potential loading they may receive.
