Hi
thanks for reply.
Would it be possible the van is fitted with wrong discs? Solid instead of slotted.

Thanks

shouldn't make much difference, i'd go with them sticking aswel

Its curious that the discs that are fitted now are different from the original....by 'slotted' I presume you mean vented? There is a considerable difference in the thickness of the two types of disc and they shouldn't be interchanged. The problem remains the same however - the pads are still contacting the disc for some reason - usually because the caliper sliding pins are seized up. I'm wondering if your van has the calipers with the one bolt on the top, that shouldn't be taken out? Often this is completely unscrewed, whereas all you need to do is to slacken it, and remove the pin from the bottom of the caliper - then hinging it upwards, out of the way.

Hi
Sorry should have said vented.
I just got the van and the brake problem with it.
Mine are solid type and have a pin at the bottom which can be withdrawn and the caliper swung up to reveal pads.
I have pushed the piston back this I did without to much difficulty.

I think this could now point to a brake pipe problem - the flexible variety. If they are collapsing internally, brake fluid can't retract, keeping the pads in contact with the disc. Just a thought! The way to sort this is to drive the van, apply the brakes and come to a halt. On jacking the van up, there is a good chance that the brakes have locked on. Releasing the caliper bleed nipple should release the pressure within, allowing the brakes to come free again. Maybe worth a try! Cheers John

it is possible for the pistons, when running on worn thin pads, to come out a long way and get dirt on them, which prevents then retracting freely when you fit thick new pads.

A pro fitter or a keen amateur would have given them a good clean

Brake cleaner spray is expensive, but an old toothbrush with a bit of brake fluid is cheap

You might need new rubber boots, or if unlucky, new rubber seals which is a lot more work

I don't know Transits but this is a common prob. I would have thought a reputable high-street Brake and Tyre fitter would know how to do it but staff standards very.

Wind em back, with a screwdriver or a g clamp, i always open the nipples rather than send possibly boiled brake fluid back into the system, as johnd says, a little brake fluid will help it along.
