Hi,

I have an N-reg 1.4 LX Ford Escort with an usual steering problem.

When I accelerate the wheels move slightly but sharply to the left. The steering wheel jumps right to counter this so the car continues to go straight forward. When I brake the reverse happens and the wheel moves back to a central position.

I've had the lower suspension arms and all brakes replaced and checked as all working ok by a garage. I've also had the car tracked 3 times now. The wheels immediatley lose alignment after tracking.

I've been advised by a garage that it is probably either the Steering Column or Rack and Pinion.

Does anyone have any experience of this problem or replacing these parts? I'm unsure whether to tackle this myself but doubt i could afford a garage to investigate and replace the required parts.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

thanks

i had an escort that used to do a similar thing but i cant remember if it was the worn suspension arm bushes or the anti roll bar bushes that i changed to sort it out

Why would anybody bother doing the tracking three times on a car with a worn rack? Time to take it to a proper garage methinks.
