ford escort(year 1998) blowing fuses

hello there
i have got an escort(1998), every time i turn ignition on the 10 amp fuse blows( position 14 in fuse box) also the rear fog lights do not work! i have completly disconnected the rear lights and the fog light switch,fuse still blows grrrr! could it be fuse box? any ideas would be welcome. thanks. barry

What engine type and size is it?
Fuse 14 is possibly an engine management fuse. Looks like it may be fuse 32 for the fog lights, that is of course if the fuse is the problem for the fogs. Possibly two completely different problems.

I had to replace a fuse box on a 1.8 escort that I had. Can't remember what year but it was about a 96.
Just kept getting intermitent problems constantly. I'd strip the car and check the circuits and everything seemed OK. Stick it back together and it would work for a bit. Drove me mental. Eventually took out the fuse box and opened it up and could see it was buggered.
Not a difficult job to replace and I remember thinking that the price was reasonable too altough we are talking a few years ago!

ta for quick reply, i will take a good look at fuse box, could it be a case of the box looking ok,but still knackered,or will it be obvious? i will let you knw what i find. cheers

ta for getting back to me, its a 1.6 petrol.perhaps i got me fuse numbers wrong. i will take another look and let you know if thats ok. cheers.
