ford focus engine management light on

I bought a focus 1.6 LX 2001 Y reg two days ago and the engine management light came on today and has stayed on
it seems to be running fine but on tick over it revs between 1 and 1.5 on its own
any ideas what it could be please guys

Did you buyer it from a private seller or garage?

Do you have access to a code reader to see what the problem is?

im Andy too lol
got it from a private seller
im getting a mate to do a diagnostics check on it tomorrow
it drives fine but it only stutters on tick over
