hi could anyone help me decide which foundation would be best near to a group of oaks and poplars.the oaks have t.p.o's. The soil is a stiff clay and the foundations would have to be between 8 and 10 metres from the trees.thanks
Strip footings might be an option but they will need to be deep.
It depends on the Volume Change Potential (VCP) of the soil. Assuming a medium VCP the NHBC guideline recommend a depth of nearly 2.5m when you have an Oak or Poplar within 10m.
If it's a high VCP then Piles might be a better option.
Might be sensible to have a sample of soil tested and speak to an engineer.
