Once Ive blocked up to DPC, can I just fill the trench space with soil on the outside?

Which sand should I use beneath the dpc membrane, Im ordering building sand for the mortar so thought might as well get that delivered as well, if I can use building sand would be better
Yes building (soft) sand.
