Two timber dg window frames need replacing - they are on the exposed house wall that takes all the rain and wind.

Would PVC be best choice?

How/ where do I ensure I get best quality frame and best installation?

i guess there is no cheaper way to get made-to-measure windows than from a upvc supplier.

difficult to beat on performance and maintenance too.

it's usually the monkeys that measure and fit them that turn a half decent job into a bad one. lack of basic building knowledge does let a lot of upvc companies down.

but in an ideal world and if you have a tidy budget, some english oak windows, with strong mullions would look superb. we used to measure timber windows to within 1/16th of an inch in the old days. all fixers were armed with a very sharp trimming axe and a wet stone.

i kid you not.
