Can someone please tell me where I can get free loft insulation.

I have no loft insulation at present.

I have read that 90% of homes qualify but cannot find where.

I am 76 years old but not on benefits.

AFAIK the subsidised schemes were withdrawn this year. You can have a look on energy company websites (start with BG, who formerly had a very generous scheme even if you were not their customer). It's worth checking back in case the schemes get reinstated.

Age concern will know if there are any schemes for older people.

Your local council should have an information page on their websites

And Martins Money Saving has a roundup of schemes.

This page includes links for eligibility and contact numbers at the energy companies http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/free-cavity-loft-insulation#freeinsulation

Avoid any random door-to-door canvassers, and stick with the reputable companies. Also avoid websites with names like governmentgrants.co.uk When you think you are looking at their website to find eligibility, they ask for your name and address and sell your details to companies who want to sell you boilers or other stuff. Genuine government sites end with .gov.uk Go direct to the supplier, not a middleman.

I see you are in Surrey, so try SSE https://www.sse.co.uk/help/energy/energy-efficiency/discounted-energy-efficient-installations#item1 although you do not have to be a customer of the companies you approach.

From what I hear, the governments "green deal" loan scheme was a complete failure.

Also check you are on a good energy tariff

The pound dropped by about 18% after the Brexit vote, so imported oil and gas will cost more once this winter's supply contracts are used up.

Thanks JohnD for taking so much trouble with this.

It seems that the problem I have is that I don't want to claim benefits.

Thanks for help

Does anyone know of any free loft insulation that is not benefit tested please?

It used to be free to everyone.

Why would you not want to claim a benefit that saves you money, saves the planet and is generally good all round for your health? And also if you don't want to claim what are you asking for? No such thing as free insulation, someone always pays. The previous scheme, the government paid so even if it's means tested now it's still from the same place. Just claim the means tested one and enjoy the warm feeling of saving the planet :)

I saw a company called Keep Warm mentioned. The scheme (not means tested) apparently closes in Feb, or perhaps earlier once the budget is used up.

I haven't got a link but I hear their website states the criteria.

edit
try here
https://keepwarm.co.uk/

I have no knowledge of the company.

I might try some of these myself.

I just bought 5 X 200mm rolls from Wikes for £75 but probably need another 10.

Thanks for the links

Much of the older generation do not want to be on benefits and do not want to be means tested. We have worked and paid all of our lives. We are proud and that is my personal decision.

You say what am I asking.

I am asking my original question and that was not about benefits. It was about saving the country's energy resources.

Are any free ones non benefits please?

JamesEB
if you get a state pension you are already on benefit as the state pension is a benefit
indeed the greatest amount off the benefit spend is on pension benefit
i could be wrong but most off the criteria used to be something like
you are ellegable if
if you have young children
on means tested benefits
are off pensionable age
now it may have changed but often people stop reading when they see the words "on benefits" read on as you may be included unless it specifically says pensioner on "means tested benefits" and your not

you might find something here

gov uk is another great source for information

Fair enough! I just think if the current government are offering money to do something it must be a good idea. It's not like they're generous at the moment!

Does anyone have any experience of this?

There is an old adage that if something looks too good to be true it probably is.

It's a bit worrying for a 76 year old.
