We have a driveway down the side of my 3 bed semi. At the garden end we want to block it off and my wife prefers it to be build from bricks instead of timber. I therefore intend to build a freestanding wall (single 100mm skin thickness) with a doorway and possibly a window in it, to a height of about 2.1m which will support a lightweight roof.
One end of it can obviously easily be tied into the existing house, but it's the other end by the timber fence that I'm concerned with - how much of a return adjacent to the fence run should I build to give it enough structure so as to deter toppling?
