Hi all

A friend has a Panasonic nr-b29sg2-sb fridge freezer.

Yesterday she had a LC error code (too warm) for the chilled food section. I told her to defrost the freezer compartment.

I swung by her's this morning to check it and noticed that there was evidence of ice behind the fan/defrost heater panel. On removing the panel I discovered the that the ice on the heater element was about an inch high (spanning the width of the compartment). I spent an hour slowly heating it with a heat gun until it had all melted. Towards the end of the process I used kitchen paper to mop up the water from the bottom of the defrost heater tray. Shouldn't it have drained away to the little hopper above the compressor?

In the picture above there is a "grommet" at the lowest point of the tray. Shouldn't the water drain through that. From what I can see it looks like a blind hole grommet though.

Additionally, whilst there I used my cheapo infra-red thermometer to check the temperature of a can in the chiller section. It read 11.3 degrees when the compartment is set to +4 degrees. I set it to +2 degrees and the can temperature dropped by 1 degree after about 10 minutes. The service mode program reports the internal temperature as matching the set temperature. Is my thermometer rubbish?

Thanks in advance.
