Hi,

We have a AEG Santo 3534 KG fridge/freezer, which we've had quite some time (just looked at the information and we bought it in 1996!!), and has been operating well until recently. It's even survived three house moves.

The fridge and freezer have separate on/off and temperature controls, but we recently noticed that the freezer temperature had fallen to -32° C. Turning the dial to increase or decrease the temperature makes no difference. I don't know when this started happening, but we noticed that food in the freezer was getting a lot colder than usual. Hubby defrosted it but it still shot straight down to -30 ish when switched back on.

Is it time to bite the bullet and get a new one, or is this fixable?

We thought it was but apparently not. We have had to defrost quite a few times over the years we've had it.

And it's not by any heat source and has plenty of ventilation around it, as it stands alone without any surrounding cupboards.

have you defrosted it recently
if not that's a good starting point

did it not long ago, and was done again a couple of weeks ago when this problem was noticed.

Presumably the freezer motor is running continuously....?
I guess it needs a new thermostat fitted.
John :)
