I currently have a window that looks like this:

So the window sits back in the wall. I am installing a french door here and these are the specs:

My question is. The current window sits back in the wall so I am presuming the door will as well........

There is no mention of a cill in the spec...... I am presuming that one is supplied and that the door sits on this .... but not sure how far the cill will extend..... will it cover the "reveal" depth? Would this be normal? Should I ask?

Also the window company sent out their surveyor to take the measurements (I was having difficulty securing a builder at this time.). I now have a friend who is a very experienced joiner along with his labouring friend who is going to cut out the wall and make ready. But for my own piece of mind I have some questions about what exactly needs done.

The gap that is left by removing the window and brickwork should be in the region of 10 mm to 15 mm wider than the measurement above and should it be the same for the height or more to allow for the cill?

I understand that any gap between outer brick/block work and inner will be covered at the sides by a cavity cover..... but at the bottom where the cill will go is there need for anything such as a damp proof membrane or does the cill act as this.

Thanks for any answers or links to anything on how to prepare the "hole". I have watched various youtube videos but they seem to jump over this part a little...... not so much the sides and I have seen videos re cavity closers but my concern is more the base where the door will sit. thanks

That spec doesn't include a cill and is face drained as a consequence, you need to stop the order asap, the overall height you have there is 2100mm, that height NEEDS TOO INCLUDE the cill so essentially the frame needs to be made at 2070mm + the 30mm cill will get you back to 2100mm, if the door is being set back a way then the standard 150mm deep cill perhaps won't be enough, probably need a 180mm

Thanks for the response.
Without knowing the height of my current window and measurement to the floor how are you able to determine that there has not been allowance already for the height of the cill?
I am going to call the company as I am not sure why the spec would not include a cill as surely there would be the potential to be a colour mismatch then? not all whites are the same?

My question re measurement around the door was for my own education. From what I can see/measure the above measurements appear to be actually slightly below the size of the window but I do not have skills in measuring and not a very accurate tape measure.

Looks to me that the window company are expecting you to reuse the existing (concrete?) cill.
Think you also need to check the existing opening measurements - both internally and externally. It's possibly to late now but I think you really to discuss the new door fittings with the manufacturers surveyor.

Thanks.... slightly happier at the moment. Spoke to window company .... they are bringing a 175 mm cill with them and say that the specs are based on the surveyors measurements plus allowances for fitting .... Surveyor is also going to talk to my builder. Thank you for all the advice.

If theres a included it will show it on the diagram, it would also state 'height includes the cill', also the fact it says face drained could mean there's no cill accounted for. If they're reusing the concrete cill then that's fine, no cill required and face drain is correct

To measure your height find your damp course and measure up to the top of the window
