Our French doors which are now 20 years old have stopped unlocking. How much will it cost to have the locking mechanism replaced? Is it cheaper to buy new doors?
Does the first-shutting leaf have little manual bolts at top and bottom, or is it all operated by the lever on the second leaf?
Is there a mechanism on the edge of the second leaf that throws bolts upward and downward into the frame?
Anyway, you probably have a Multipoint Lock. These can be renewed with new fairly easily. In your town there will be at least one independent local specialist who makes a living out of repairing patio doors and plastic windows and I'm sure he will be able to do yours. Ask around neighbours and local friends for a personal recommendation.
The mechanisms are easy to buy, but there is large variety. A local mender will probably have worked on other local homes like yours and be familiar with the brand used by your local builder.
