French Doors, security

I have a set of French doors on a juliette balcony with a cheap euro cylinder. So it definitely needs a security upgrade.
I'm thinking about swapping the handle on the outside for a blank plate and half barrel lock but what do I do with the spindle?

I also have a set down stairs that I want to be able to pull open, when they are unlocked but not be able to unlock for the outside. Any ideas?

What do you do with the spindle if you remove the outside handle?

Cut it down to fit, just make sure you leave enough so it engages handle and locking mechanism but also can't move and ' fall ' out of the handle
