Hello everybody.

I recently bought a Freud FT2200 secondhand which came with 2 collets....a 1/2" and what I assumed would be a 1/4" too.
However the smaller looking collet is not a 1/4" and way too big for my 1/4" bits.

So basically I need a 1/4" collet.

BUT for those of you familiar with Freud routers....My half inch collet seems to 'click' in to the collet nut......so do I also need a 1/4 collet nut for the 1/4 collet to go in to or will a 1/4" collet go into the collet nut I already have for my 1/2" collet?

Please advise.

The collet you have is probably an 8mm. I'm not 100% sure about the nut, but as any collet has to fit in the same taper, I would assume that the same nut is used. It certainly looks like it is.

I've got a ft 2000 vce Freud router which I'd assume is similar. IIRC that came with a reducer sleeve that fits inside the 1/2" collet for smaller bits. I never used the reducer as the machine has always been used for 1/2" bits. Obviously 1/2" bits are going to be a lot stronger and give faster material removal etc. Mine has done about ten years of furniture making without any problem. A pretty capable piece of kit.

i have a similar problem with my freud hinge router, iirc my collet is 6 mm,so 1/4 inch bits are to big.

A Freud 1/4" collet will fit the same collet nut as the 1/2" collet.

Does anybody know where I can get a 1/4 collet AND a nut (so I can keep a 1/2 and a 1/4 each in their own nut)? UK preferably but internationally if necessary?? Cheers.
