I was contemplating building a couch on top of a fridge that is on its side. A back would have to be added as would cushions. The shelves also would have to be rotated so that they still are usable. Also the old hinges would have to be removed and either new hinges used and placed on the outsides ( like suicide doors for those of you familiar with cars) or the same hinges may be used as long as they can still suport this. I am worried that the fabrics being in contact with the outside circuitry may cause a fire. I have included an image for reference. Any input is welcome.

you can not be serious?

if you are forget it, the fridge compressor will make the floor wet, as in the vertical the condensate runs to a pipe on the compressor and getts evaporated, if its on its side it will either fill your fridge or make your floor wet

You CAN not be serious  John Macenroe.................you could do it with a chest freezer

I think the only practicable way to do this would be to ditch the existing upright fridge, and instead get an under-counter, built-in fridge as your starting point. This would have two advantages:

1) It would be running in the correct orientation so not dripping condensate all over the floor
2) It would be designed to be enclosed

Of course, you would still have to pay attention to the fitting instructions to make sure there is adequate ventilation.

Is this being done to save space, or is it more of a thing to impress and amaze friends? :D

like the ones you`ve seen in "those" bars, eh.Adam ;)

If all fails, buy a large hammer and beat some sense into yourself... :D :D :D

....if the compressor in the fridge isn't designed to be at that angle the oil will drain out of it and seize up....

Well this is why I asked, so that things like that would not happen. I am sorry i'm not so good with appliances your highness, my expertise is elsewhere.

I thought your J Edgar Hoover invented the vacuum cleaner ;) I recon the trunk of an old car would look good
