Hi,

I have a Hoover frost free fridge freezer and it trips the main switch (not 32a socket switch) on the fuse box.

no other appliance or light ect is doing just the fridge freezer, I have run an extension lead to another room to try on another circuit and have run it through the dedicated cooker socket and it still trips? any ideas? thanks

P.S my PC was running when it first tripped and now doesnt boot up at all, could that be caused by the trip?

It is possible that your PC was writing to the hard disk or similar when the power tripped and could have corrupted it.

I take it everything else on the circuit is unplugged? Does it trip with say the vacuum cleaner or a kettle plugged in? If not it is sounding like your fridge freezer has had it, do you know any service engineers?

hi spark123,

yes the pc was downloading stuff at the time of the trip, so you think maybe it could be a corrupted hard drive? I will test it with another hard drive to see what happens, thanks

and yes I unplugged all the other appliances and tried using the kettle, toaster and microwave through the same socket but they are all fine, just the fridge freezer and unfortunatly I dont know any engineers.

I have just got off the phone with hoover as it seems most likely its the fridge freezer and there sending an engineer round friday (no chance in hell of replacement) but thay have said if it needs parts it could be 7 working days or more before they arrive, so over a week without frozen or chilled food and drink :(

If it is "frost free" because it auto defrosts from time to time then have a chat with the engineer about whether it will happen again.

If it doesn't have a drainage outlet then the water from the defrost is collected in a container on top of the compressor and is then evaporated with the heat from the compressor.

If there is too much frost to melt then the container over flows and the electrical terminals to the compressor get soaked.
