I've checked my brakes against the minimum wear in the haynes manual.
I've got a 54 plate micra with vented discs.
Iv'e got 6mm on the pads. The manual says the min. for the pads is 2mm. is that a bit too thin?

Also checked the discs, which have about 1mm. before the minimun thickness mentioned in the manual.
Am i over reacting if i change the discs and pads now?

The pads will work perfectly well until the 2mm wear limit, and even that is so that the car can do a little more mileage before they become dangerous.....if the car was sent out from service with 2mm pads left, there's no guarantee it would make it until the next garage visit, hence the recommendation for change.
As for the discs, you'll find a heavy wear lip around the edge but probably more unseen corrosion on the rear face so they will need doing soon.
However, there's no need to panic - your brakes will happily last until the warmer weather if you want, but replace all pads and discs as a full set.
John :)
