Folks, I'm looking for some help.

I'm in a flat with an internal front door. I purchased a light, FL2314/1 from FrankLite. I was putting it up and, like the idiot I am, I dropped two of the screws from the connector block inside the lamp unit. I've lost them, and so I cannot connect the lamp to the electrics.

So, I'm having to buy a new block connector to join the wires...not sure if that's the correct terminology.

My question is, can I replace the connector with any one? I've been to the DIY shop, and there appears to be connectors for 3amp, 5amp, 15amp etc. Can I use a 3amp connector, as it is a normal light, or does it need something bigger?

Cheers

The standard BA22d bulb holder it rated at 2A the bulbs in theroy all have a built in fuse so a 3A connector would not be a problem.

If supplying more than a single bulb holder then in the main ceiling roses are rated at 5 or 6 amp as a result that is also the maximum size for any fuse or MCB supplying lighting so a 5A connector would be ample.

However the regulations do allow up to 16A for lighting circuits so where ceiling roses are not used as junction boxes then it would be permitted to use a larger fuse or MCB for lighting up to 16A. This is some times the case where quartz halogen spots have been used. So one does need to check size of fuse or breaker one can't assume it is 6A.

Having said all that the chances are even if you have a 16A supply using a 3A connector block will not cause any problems.

Choose one where the wires will fit well. Either 3 or 5 amp I guess
Indeed. The OP should choose one which looks similar in size to the one he is replacing - 'current ratings' are really only of theoretical/academic interest in this context.

Kind Regards, John
