Hi.
All TRV's and lockshields these days seem to be 1/2". I've read something about changing the tails but don't really understand it. Can someone enlighten me as to the steps to take to fit the TRV's and lockshields?

Thanks,
Mandy

You need a special little tool to unscrew the chrome tails out of the radiator itself and screw the new ones in with lots of ptfe tape and an adjustible spanner. They come as part of the replacement. Then you can fit the new trvs.

any DIY shed or plumbers merchant will have them for a few pounds

The "throat" of the tail (the inside of it) will fit this key. More modern rad valves have a square or hex on the outside of the tail that you can undo with a spanner.

You get to heave on the key quite hard to undo an old tail. You will put PTFE tape round the thread of the new one so it will probably be easier to get in and out
