im struggling to find a solution to this head ache
ive narrowed it down so far to the Kitchen cct (as being the problem cct)which ive got one Skt conected to, with fridge plugged in its working fine no problems , but when i connected the tumble dryer to the same skt it trips the rcbo . How do i test for a faulty appliance and how to test if its an over sensitive problem . Thanks all . :D

I assume the RCBO is connected correctly? Did it pass its tests when it was installed?

if so then use:

RCD tester to test the RCBO

Insulation tester to test IR on the appliance(s)

Also insulation tester to test the wiring of the circuit

I will agree it is hard. I have in the past tested a RCD with the meter and it has held at 15ma both positive and negative cycle yet changing RCD and the new one tripped at 30ma both positive and negative cycle and it cured the problem.
As to testing a tumble dryer without opening it up it is hard to test with an insulation tested as the relays will not have energised the motor and only real way without dismantle is with a PAT tester.
As an electrician I would normally carry a spare RCD and full set of test meters although may not always carry PAT tester as a little bulky.
But for any DIY person the story is different, it is likely the tumble dryer is at fault so calling out an electrician may not help much as he is likely to identify the tumble dryer as the fault leaving you to call out another tradesman to repair that.
You must consider when the fault started and the most likely fault and choose the tradesman. At the cost of hire for test instruments not really a DIY job.
I would think more likely tumble dryer is at fault.

If you can connect the washer to a socket on a different circuit using an extension lead & still get the same result then it would seem that you do have a problem with the appliance. Or is the the kitchen the only rcbo protected circuit?

What seems to be happening is makiing me now feel that the tumble dryer is faulty .
Since posting i have used an extension cable from another skt , plugged the dryer into it and it has tripped the rcbo has this proved that it can be nothing else but a fault with dryer ?
I do not own a rcd tester or IR tester as yet (will look at getting these when i pass c&g). And i do not know 100% if the RCBO was tested when it was installed all i know is it was fitted by a qualified spark , so i trust it has . It has been installed for about 6months fine and up until last week to ten days the problems have started to happen.

Have also see odd things like this happen when there is a N-E fault on an RCD protected circuit in a TN-CS system, a heavy load appliance causes enough current to flow around the fault and trip the RCD.
More likely the tumble dryer though.
